Game is atm behind two maps to f2p, both maps are free in f2p! also, its better for it to be a DLC in this version because the FTP version is a far more difficult game (you also have to pay for blue crab island in the FTP version) Originally posted by Paleo Jake:it is behind in content by 1 map: blue crab island. I prefer only having to pay once and have that new content forever and without restreictions instead of paying over and over just to reach it in the end of the day you save money like this :) On the other hand, in the F2P version, playing the same amount of time only brought me to level 10/12 and gave me many more problems money wise since I don't spend actual money in games. I have only around 40 hours in this game and I'm already level 21 and I've been mostly fishing in waterways you unlock at level 10 max (I take things slow and relax) grinding properly I'd probably be much higher in level than what I am now. You have also to consider that, while with this game you'll need to buy the new content as DLC, in the F2P version you have to spend much more time and money to actually get access to that "free" content. I don't want to buy a game that is supposed to be complete and include all the DLC just to have to buy a DLC update that is free on the F2P version. Now you are saying that the free content update on FP is coming to TF as DLC. I have seen several reviews that say that The Fisherman is actually behind Fishing Planet in terms of content. It is screaming out for more content at this point - as is evident from the other forum posts.Originally posted by CornishSpur:The new update for FP is coming to this game soon as dlc. Saying that I'm happy with the game as is currently and get many, many hours of fun from it. The developers are responsible for content, bug-fixes and back-end maintenance. The publisher is responsible for marketing, consumer relations and support.Ģ. Just to reiterate what I'm trying to say:ġ. Provided that Publisher has no obligation to exploit the Game or exercise the exclusive licence or other rights granted herein. This licence is for the Territory and the Term, and covers all media, platforms, distribution channels, derivative works, and types of exploitation of the Game and Related Content, including merchandising and film rights. Developer hereby grants Publisher an irrevocable, transferrable, sublicenceable (through multiple chains of sublicensees) exclusive licence over the entirety of Developer’s rights in the Game and Related Content. The parties agree that Developer retains sole and exclusive ownership of all intellectual property rights in the Game and Related Content.Ĥ.2 Exclusive Licence to Publisher. Nothing in this Agreement assigns any intellectual property rights in the Game or Related Content to Publisher. More details on the author/publisher relationship can be found here: Įxample of a developer/publisher contract here: Here's an excerpt (4.1 & 4.2) from the contractual agreement:Ĥ.1 Ownership by Developer. A contract of this nature usually has a clause where lack of bug-fixes or contractual content updates from the developers will result in development being outsourced to another developer, and the costs of this will be taken from the royalty payments (dangerous game playing this, as if royalties don't cover the costs, the developers will be billed for it, and taken to court to reclaim it if need be - its a brutal industry). Publishers usually have a set contract for each game they take on, this contract doesn't change - its either a yes or no to the agreement. The contract agreement between the two parties will dictate how much responsibility is given across the board of course, but I can guarantee the publisher hasn't also taken on sole rights of development responsibilities as this isn't standard practice (this is also evident as the developers of FP made the content from Fishing Planet available on The Fisherman post-release, which wouldn't be possible if all the rights were given to the publisher). Been a software engineer for 15 years, I see the blame game for bug fixes and the like weekly between a publisher and the developers - with neither wanting to take the wrap for any shortcomings. The publisher still doesn't 'own' the game in the way you think they do, the developers are solely responsible for bug-fixes, content updates etc.
